Jon Jones is considered by many as one of the greatest athletes of all time due to his resume in the light-heavyweight division. He was the youngest champion in UFC history, and pretty much dominated the legends and also the young hungry lions.

Although he has one loss in his record, many agree that it was not a legit loss since he was pretty much winning the fight but landed an illegal strike that led to a DQ loss. Many argued that it could been stopped way before Jones landed the 12-6 elbow.

In terms of resume, Jones might probably have the best due to him not tasting defeat and his title defenses. The record speaks for itself, the only thing that Jones might not have is the clean track record in the PEDs department. Jones has popped numerous times that some think is what disqualifies him in the GOAT argument.

Now that Jones dominated the Light-heavyweight division for quite a while, it would make sense for him to move up and fight for the heavyweight crown to further increase his legacy. Not an easy task, but who would bet against someone as talented as Jon Jones? He has been proving the doubters wrong since his rise in the UFC.

The problem with Jones’s inactivity, Ring rust could factor in if Jones waits a bit longer. He is already coming in as a slight underdog against the champ, and it will be his heavyweight debut. Not being able to fight quite a while usually does not favor the fighters

Although Jones has shown that he could overcome ring rust when he knocked out Daniel Cormier in their rematch, it was later revealed that he popped once more with PEDs. Jones is fighting someone bigger and stronger than him, in a division he is not yet familiar with. If Jones does become the HW champion, it is hard not to call him the GOAT.

Jones has been calling out Francis Ngannou for a potential superfight and Ngannou is also interested. Most if not all agree that Jones deserves to fight for the heavyweight crown, but the problem lies with his negotiations with the UFC, they have yet to find the price that Jones and the UFC agrees on.

Fortunately, Jones has a new MMA manager which is the famous Richard Schaefer. For those who do not know, he is the guy that is behind the biggest names in Boxing. Schaefer and Dana White have a good relationship so it could make things done hopefully.
