Jon Jones has had enough of Tom Aspinall and his fans calling him out for a fight. In a series of posts, the heavyweight champ addressed all the points involving the matter, including why he wants to meet Stipe Miocic in the cage instead of the Briton in his return to the UFC cage. Ultimately, the American suggested that his fight versus Miocic might be his last, echoing earlier reports of his retirement.
Aspinall has always been consistent in his callouts to Jones after winning the interim title at UFC 295. This was followed by the fighter’s demand to strip Jones of his belt and even the suggestion of making him fight Miocic instead and then face the undisputed champ when he returns. All the requests were turned down by the UFC, but this hasn’t stopped Aspinall from repeatedly calling out Jones.
Unfortunately, the champ is fed up with all this.
This week, “Bones” made a series of messages addressed to Aspinall and his fans pushing the Aspinall vs. Jones fight.
In his posts, the champ criticized the interim champ of his record to explain why his callouts are irrelevant. Jones pointed out that the British has “only four recognizable opponents” and underscored that he became a champ when he was only 23 years old.
Aspinall commented on the matter, accusing Jones of letting his ego “run wild.” The 36-year-old countered it, recalling how the fighter made several ambitious callouts to him despite only having an “imaginary championship” and 90% of his opponents being unknown.
In the end, Jones explained that his eagerness to face Miocic instead of Aspinall is nothing complex and not because of running away from the challenge. According to Jones, it’s just a simple matter of “unfinished business” between him and Stipe, stressing “it’s really just that simple.”
Ultimately, the icon mildly affirmed that he might not get another fight after facing Miocic. The fighter suggested that Miocic is the only name he would want to add to his record before exiting the cage, saying he has no plans of sticking around in the sport, unlike other aging talents who are still fighting.
“What I refuse to do is be like a lot of these other fighters who stuck around too long,” Jones wrote. “That just won’t happen. Your boy Bones Jones over here, despite what a lot of people may like to think. I’ve set myself up pretty well in life. I want Stipe for my résumé, outside of that, I need nothing else from this sport. I came, I saw, and I conquered. Facts.”
