Leon Edwards is no longer the main event of the historic UFC 300 card. In case it was pushed, nonetheless, fans would have witnessed his interesting fight against Khamzat Chimaev or Shavkat Rakhmonov or even a champ vs. champ fight versus Islam Makhachev.

After UFC 298, UFC CEO Dana White revealed that the match between Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill would be the card’s headliner on April 13. This was opposed to the earlier reports claiming that Edwards was the company’s initial choice. According to White, the reason behind the cancelation of the plan was not anything money-related but “timing.” Nonetheless, the executive expressed gratitude toward the Briton, who agreed to the bouts against the three names he presented.

White didn’t name the fighters, but Ariel Helwani shared that they were Makhachev, Rakhmonov, and Chimaev. The journalist earlier shared that the match versus the last name was the promotion’s “top choice.” However, none of the fighters reportedly agreed to the offer, including welterweight’s Rakhmonov. Chimaev and Makhachev’s decision, nonetheless, is not surprising, as both have decided not to accept fights during Ramadan.

Interestingly, Belal Muhammad, who has always been vocal about his intention to fight the welterweight champ due to the promotion’s title shot promise, was not included in the options. In his recent interview, the fighter even reiterated his callout to the champ, saying he could fight even on short notice and during Ramadan.
