Nate Diaz really needed to get a win in this fight and he did so in dominant fashion.
It was coming up on one year since Nate lost his UFC lightweight title shot against Benson Henderson on December 8th 2012. Nate followed that loss with his first ever KO loss to Josh Thomson on April 20th 2013 (evidently he was not motivated to win on 4/20).
Many fighters suffer from a drop in confidence following a loss in a title bout, and especially after being knocked out for the first time. Not Nate however, he strode into this fight with his trademark intensity, then he peppered Maynard with shots until the fight was stopped.
