And the NEW! Unified Heavyweight Champion, Oleksandr Usyk just shocked the world. He not only beat Joshua, but it was also a dominant win. Many were saying that Usyk was too small for the heavyweights as they were towering over him, but his technical skill is probably the best in the division right now. Ukraine has a new heavyweight champion once more.
Both fighters had unique entrances and of course, Joshua as expected had one of those spectacular ring entrances. The seats in attendance were packed, as many UK fans want to see Anthony Joshua defend his belt on their home soil.
In the fight, Usyk started aggressive which may have surprised Joshua. Many were expecting Usyk to be more cautious and wait until Joshua gets slower in the later rounds as he is the smaller guy with better cardio but no Usyk started aggressively and did not slow down until the final round.
Usyk managed to rock Joshua in the third, it just shows that Usyk may not really possess the one-hit knockout power but he still has that punch that makes the opponent get rocked or be more cautious.
Usyk just outboxed AJ, he landed the cleaner punches and dictated the fight. In the last round, both fighters were already in their last breath and Usyk was willing to give it all and look for the finish. He clipped AJ numerous times that stunned AJ, but the ropes saved AJ from going down. It may not be because the punches were powerful, but it was a barrage of punches and he couldn’t defend or dodge most of it.
After the bell, Joshua looked exhausted and relieved that he was able to survive until the end. Joshua showed tremendous heart but it was just Usyk’s night.
When Bruce Buffer read the scorecards and announced Usyk as the winner, emotions went out. Usyk became a two-division champion. The decision to move up and face bigger guys was worth it.
Anthony Joshua tried to fight technically against Usyk which may have led to his fall down. Most of the boxers suggested that he should get back to his original style where he uses his size and power more and fight on the inside since he is the much bigger fighter. Instead, he tried to fight Usyk in a chess match and Usyk was clearly the better boxer.
Usyk always had the upper hand on the foot position, he was the better boxer and deserves to be called the new heavyweight champion. It was a championship performance by Usyk and the only way he would have lost was a robbery from the judges.
He is currently ranked 4th pound for pound boxer in the world, becoming the heavyweight champion could put him at the top or a close second as Canelo is still on the quest to become the first-ever undisputed super middleweight champion.
