Sean O’Malley will have the chance to avenge the sole loss on his record at UFC 299 when he faces Marlon Vera. And to prove that the opponent’s earlier win over him is just all about luck, “Sugar” says he’ll make a finish on March 9 at Kaseya Center in Miami.

Vera and O’Malley first met in August 2020 at UFC 252, where Vera won via TKO over the present champ. This gave the American fighter his first loss, which remains the only one he has in his current record. O’Malley, nonetheless, still hasn’t conceded his defeat and believes that Vera just got lucky during that time.

Now, with a rematch between them approaching, the bantamweight champ is determined to prove he’s actually an undefeated champ by taking down the opponent. O’Malley is confident in his skills and speed, adding he won’t need all the five rounds to get the win.

“I don’t think it’s going five rounds,” O’Malley shared on his YouTube channel. “I’m finishing this dude, but I’ll be ready for war. I think he thinks, ‘Oh, I’m going to make it this war and it’s going to be this mental grind and he’s not going to be able to keep …’ – let’s go there. I will break you. I don’t think he’s going to be able to outpace me.

“For whatever reason there’s this: It’s always, ‘Oh, but he can’t wrestle. Oh, he doesn’t have enough cardio.’ It’s always something. I’ve got it all. I can do it all. If it goes five 5s and you get to see that – I don’t think it’s going to; I think I’m going to finish him. (I’m) too fast, too sharp, too focused. I’m taking this dude out.”
