You can’t get more catastrophic than this. Kimbo Slice should not have been fighting, and how any commission cleared him is mind-boggling.
Kimbo spent 5 years away from the sport after being released from the UFC in 2010. He only returned when Scott Coker decided he was going to organize freak show fights instead of legit athletic competitions in 2015 and early 2016.
First Slice defeated Ken Shamrock in an ugly and hard-to-watch bout at Bellator 138. His next and last fight is arguably the worst bout to ever take place in the sport’s history. His fight with Dada5000 at Bellator 149 never should have happened. Neither guy was in good enough shape. One guy almost died that night, and the other would be dead a few months later.
Dada5000 suffered cardiac arrest that night and almost died. Slice would be dead a few months later from heart failure. He left six children. How someone can be cleared to fight, and then four months later die of heart failure is something many can’t comprehend.
