Marcus Sursa vs. Paul Buentello
As documented earlier in his clash with Donald Cerrone, heavyweight fighter Marcus Sursa is no stranger to backstage confrontations, and he had one with another former UFC star, Paul Buentello a year later in 2011.
Buentello was Sursa’s first boxing coach, but he was standing in the opposite corner coaching his opponent Nate James at Undisputed MMA 1, which infuriated ‘Money’ who viewed it as a betrayal.
Sursa lost the fight by unanimous decision and subsequently pinned the blame on Buentello, noting that he had been giving him information about his training camp beforehand, unaware that ‘The Headhunter’ was also James’ manager.
As they headed backstage afterwards the two camps exchanged words, and when Sursa told James that he didn’t beat him, Buentello stepped in and said, “Well, I’ll beat your ass.”
Sursa then headbutted Buentello, splitting both men’s heads in the process.
Buentello reportedly then knocked down Sursa’s dad and two of his coaches, so he retaliated by throwing him into a corner and hitting him until others pulled them apart.
The two men were suspended for 90 days as a result of the brawl and were eventually scheduled to fight two years later, but it fell through due to Sursa claiming that the state of Texas wouldn’t grant him a license to compete due to his past troubles.
