Is There Anything Better Than a Clean Knockout? Well, Lucky Viewers Were Given an Incredible One at the Weekend in Poland, When One KSW Fighter Landed a Devastating Question Mark Kick…
If you’re an MMA fan and you’re not familiar with KSW yet, you need to sort yourself out. The Polish promotion has quickly become one of the biggest in Europe, alongside Cage Warriors. It only holds a few events every year, putting emphasis on quality over quantity. And boy, don’t they love a freak fight?
KSW 47 went down in Lodz, Poland on Saturday night. This is the city where UFC fighter Karolina Kowalciewicz comes from, and clearly, there’s something in the water there that brings MMA to boiling point. We were treated to a sensational KO courtesy of KSW debutant Aleksander Ilic.
Watch the devastating footage below. Ilic’s opponent must still be looking for his head after such a violent finish.

Pure Violence
Ilic was fighting for the first time under the KSW label. ‘Joker’ was taking on 2012 Olympic wrestling bronze medalist Damian Janikowski on the main card. Janikowski was hoping to set things straight as he was coming into this one of the back of his first loss, but unfortunately for the former Olympian, it was not to be.
Janikowski was actually dominating this one, using his ground game to great effect. Check out one of his mad suplexes that he unleashed below, stirring the crowd into a frenzy. If you want to excite people with your ground game, this is how you do it. Pity that it didn’t work out for him in the end.

KO
Unfortunately for the former Olympian, he wasn’t prepared for the slickness of Ilic, who let loose with a frankly ludicrous question mark kick to his head, dropping him to the ground like a sack of potatoes. If you were asked to pick between that Anthony Pettis’s knockout of Stephen Thompson in the UFC this weekend, you might have a problem.
Question mark kicks can be very effective when they are timed properly, because of their deceptive nature. For a split second the person receiving the attack may think that it’s going to the body. It’s very difficult to generate that much power with one though. That makes it five wins in a row for Ilic who looks to carry his momentum forward and make a name for himself in Europe. A few more highlight reel finishes like this and he’ll definitely be moving onto bigger things.
Heavyweights
In the main event Phil De Fries defended his heavyweight title against light-heavyweight champion Tomasz Nurkun, who was looking to gain ‘champ-champ’ status. It wasn’t to be for the Pole, who was beaten by a grittier opponent. Meanwhile, KSW had UFC veterans like Norman Parke and a host of former Olympians including Satoshi Ishii on their card.
KSW events are definitely worth checking out because they contain some absolutely mad match-ups and highlight moments. Expect more madness from to come out of Poland in 2019.
