4. Miesha Tate vs. Holly Holm
Holm was on top of the world after becoming the first woman to defeat UFC superstar Ronda Rousey. she did so courtesy of a stunning head kick knockout heard and seen around the world at UFC 193.
For her first bantamweight title defense, the undefeated Holm went up against the UFC’s other major female star, Miesha Tate. While another highlight-reel finish didn’t appear in the cards, for the best part of five rounds, ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ was getting the better of the action. She seemed on her way to a comfortable decision victory.
Tate had other plans though. She’d tried several times during the fight to get Holm to the mat and impose her stronger ground game, but it had proved easier said than done. With that in mind, Tate knew she only had one more chance to get that takedown. So she waited for the perfect opening, which presented itself with little more than 90 seconds remaining. She ducked under a punch and spun around to take Holm’s back and bring her down. The clock was still ticking, but Tate wasted no time in sinking in a rear-naked choke. It rendered her opponent unconscious in the process, making her the new bantamweight champion of the world.
