3. Max Holloway UFC 218
Dana White has previously said that he sees Max Holloway’s future at lightweight. That’s not surprising because the Hawaiian is a big guy – although a loss to Dustin Poirier in his 155lb debut may keep him at featherweight a while longer. ‘Blessed’ might be the featherweight champion, but he has no joy making that cut.
UFC 218 is probably the best example of how tough a toll it takes on his body. He stared blankly out at the cameras as though he didn’t even know where he was, visibly gaunt and drained. He was forced to use a towel to make the limit and it was a disturbing reminder of how brutal cutting weight can be for these professional athletes.
