3. No Holly Holm vs. Ronda Rousey 2 (unless maybe…)
The chances of us ever seeing a Holly Holm vs Ronda Rousey rematch are looking slimmer by the day. Rousey hinted at potential retirement in her last big public appearance on “Ellen”. After having taken a year off following her first set-back in her MMA career, many believe she may have checked out of her fight career mentally already.
Recent speculation, based on comments made by Stephanie McMahon, is that Rousey is all but set to begin her pro-wrestling career with WWE following her retirement from MMA.
Holly’s career is not looking much better. After a heart-breaking (for Holly anyway) loss to Miesha Tate, and a frustrating loss to Shevchenko, Holly really needs a win in her next bout. She will have a chance to win the new women’s featherweight title at UFC 208, but that might only be a one-way ticket to a future Cyborg beat-down.
The chances of Holly scoring that big money rematch with Ronda seems slim now.
UPDATE: While writing this article, Dana White commented to ESPN that if Ronda Rousey defeats Amanda Nunes at UFC 207, and Holly Holm wins the 145lbs title at UFC 208, it sets up this very fight.
Amanda Nunes’ knockout power is a big impediment to Rousey vs Holm 2 however.
