The first UFC event for the year was headlined by Max Holloway against Calvin Kattar. Holloway is coming off a back-to-back decision loss against Alexander Volkanovski. Coming to fight, Holloway was the heavy favorite since he looks like he has not lost a step, and many thought he won the second fight against Volkanovski.

The fight started and Holloway just put on an endless pressure where Kattar had no answer. He proved that Kattar’s high-level boxing is no match with his stand up striking. He even added a few weapons in his game that could make him even more dangerous in his future fights. Kattar landed a devastating elbow knockout against Stephens, Holloway also added elbow strikes that Kattar got stunned.

The fight was so one-sided that the commentators were suggesting to throw in the towel in order to avoid unnecessary damages to the fighter. The judges scored the fight 50-43, 50-42, and 50-43 which is insane considering the fight was mostly stand-up striking.

There was a highlight moment in the last round of the fight where Holloway talked with the commentators while in a fight. He yelled out “I am the best boxer in the UFC!” while dodging a high-level boxer who is known for his accuracy.

The fight also broke a UFC record that showed how tough and durable Holloway during his UFC run. He looked the best version of himself in this fight, where he looked like he was in a matrix.

After the fight, Holloway has indicated that he plans to stay in the Yas Island for another week and will tune in for the rematch of Mcgregor vs Poirier. Holloway had fought both of these fighters and sadly lost but he is willing to step up if anything happens

He may potentially move up to lightweight if he thinks that he would want to fight for another division. He has two losses against the current champion but has a win against the current title contender, Brian Ortega. Holloway’s move will be more clear after the featherweight title fight of Volkanovski vs Ortega.

The current champion reacted in his Twitter account regarding the fight.

Will the UFC set up a third match where Holloway is 0-2? Or will Ortega beat Volkanovski that could turn the tide of the featherweight division once more. The featherweight division is looking to be exciting this year.
