Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm fought in a tough war at UFC 219. The aftermath of her five-round battle with Cris Cyborg is tough to see. What a warrior…
It was certainly a gruelling night in Las Vegas for the main event fighters of UFC 219. Taking it the full 25-minutes, Cris Cyborg and Holly Holm endured a gritty standing battle. When all was said and done, it was Cyborg who had her hand raised.
The Brazilian remains the featherweight champion after the win, but there’s heaps of respect for both fighters. Cyborg, although the most dangerous woman on the planet, was unable to finish the incredibly durable Holm.
As we’ve seen in her boxing and kickboxing bouts, Holm has a chin like few other fighters out there. As you’ll see from the scorecards of the UFC 219 main event, it was actually quite a lot closer than many are giving Holm credit for:
Just One Round From Victory
Another great effort inside the UFC octagon from Holm, who will no doubt be back in action again soon. But, ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ did suffer a fair amount of facial damage from UFC 219.
UFC announcer Bruce Buffer took to social media after the fight, and he was pictured with a badly swollen Holm after the Cyborg fight. Considering how she looks normally, it’s fair to say post-Cyborg Holm is barely recognizable.
Check out the aftermath of her 25-minute brawl with Cyborg below:
brucebufferufc@HollyHolm is true Warrior both in “Victory & Defeat”… Words cannot describe my respect & fandom for her… I feel so honored to call her my friend. She is a true example of “To Be Great Is To Be Humble” ? #UFC
So after her second featherweight title chance, Holm emerges the loser, bloodied and swollen, but reassuringly still in good spirits. Cyborg will likely fight Amanda Nunes or Megan Anderson next, perhaps it’s back to the drawing board for Holm, for now.
