Floyd Mayweather will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest boxers of all time, certainly of our era, retiring with an unbeaten record of 49-0 last year. He may have his fair share of haters in the combat sports community, but his impact on boxing is undeniable.
But he’s been caught up in a different kind of talk lately, heavily linking ‘Money’ to a fight with UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor. The two infamous trash talkers have been teasing the fight for weeks now, with both parties confirming it’s no rumour.
Mayweather spoke at a recent Showtime boxing event, shocking the interviewer by confirming the fight with McGregor was close to an agreement. He even said he wanted former light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones to be part of his ‘Money Team.’ as per MMA Fighting:
“Jon Jones is with the MMA but we still gotta communicate and put some things together, me and him. We’d love Jon Jones to be a part of TMT. We steady growing. And it’s not just about us making money it’s about the talent winning. That’s what we believe and that’s why so many promoters hate us and dislike us, because we believe in the talent winning when it’s all said and done.”
So is Floyd Mayweather really going to attempt to take over the world of mixed martial arts? One thing’s for sure, if he has the ultra popular Conor McGregor on his side, he may have some success.
McGregor is currently locked in a contract dispute with the UFC, but Mayweather’s most recent interview may be the key to unlocking this fight….
