Initial betting odds for the Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill fight are now available, with the former unsurprisingly serving as the favorite and the latter as the underdog.
The news came after UFC CEO Dana White announced that the pair will be headlining the huge event on April 13. The numbers came from BetOnline, showing “Poatan” as the -145 favorite. Meanwhile, Hill serves as the bout’s underdog at +125.
This is not entirely surprising, as Hill will be coming from an Achilles tendon injury. Yet, the fighter is confident about challenging Pereira for the light heavyweight he was pushed to vacant due to the said reason. White also believes “Sweet Dreams” is now ready to take the shot and take back the belt.
“I’m friends with Kelsey Plum from the WNBA; she had the same injury [as Jamahal Hill],” White said at the UFC 298 post-fight press conference. “She came back, and won MVP, and won a National Title. He’s been going to the [Performance Institute]. She recovered from that injury at the PI. So hopefully he’s good.”
As for the Brazilian, getting the odds on his side is somewhat expected. Even White, who witnessed the fighter’s power at UFC 295 after knocking out Jiri Prochazka to claim the belt, didn’t deny that Pereira is an interesting mixed martial artist.
“[Alex Pereira with] how fast he did it, in such a short amount of time, two different weight classes,” White said. “A guy coming from basically one style and being able to accomplish what he’s accomplished here, obviously it was impressive when [Israel Adesanya] did it and now this guy did it even faster and in two different weight classes.”
