Believe it or not, the fight everybody thought would never happening is here, it's real and it's going down in August...

Hold your breath for the first press conference…it’s going to be INSANE!

Boxing is alive with the chatter of a huge fight, but not in the traditional sense. Having won two titles during his UFC run, Conor McGregor will now attempt to take on the world of boxing.

Waiting for ‘The Notorious’ in the ring will be Floyd Mayweather, arguably the greatest boxer of our generation. Although it started out as a fantasy fight, Mayweather vs. McGregor has steadily become a reality.

Contracts Signed

Last week we learned that McGregor, in the face of the doubters, had signed on the dotted line. Reportedly receiving $100 million for the bout, McGregor’s boxing debut has drawn much criticism from former champions like Oscar De La Hoya and Sugar Ray Leonard.

This week we learned that Mayweather had reserved the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for an August 26th Mayweather Promotions event. Although he’s since withdrawn the date, the option is still there.

Then came the numerous reports of Mayweather signing the contract for McGregor, check them out below:

Floyd Mayweather has cancelled his world tour in the midst of multiple reports that he has indeed signed the contract to fight against Conor McGregor…

World Tour Cancelled

As per Boxing247.com:

“The Mayweather Tour has been postponed because Mayweather has signed the contract for the McGregor Fight and serious training has started,” said a statement from the organisers in Accra.

“His visit will be after the fight. But the World Title Eliminator between Obodai Sai and Walter Kautondokwa will go ahead as scheduled,” in reference to the clash between WBO rated number 12 middleweight, Sai of Ghana and Namibia’s undefeated WBO rated number 8, Kautondokwa for the WBO Africa Middleweight title as well.”

News reporter Joe Biggs also broke the news on Twitter:

Below we have Jeff Mayweather confirming that Floyd has started camp for McGregor:

Conor McGregor will take on the best boxer the sport has seen in many years, especially technically. Will this be a smear for the sport like Oscar De La Hoya has been predicting?

“I know Floyd is training, he’s getting ready. Now he’s working consistently, normally he wouldn’t do that unless he’s getting ready for something. He’s getting ready for something. I think Floyd will be comfortable at any weight. It’s a boxing match, it’s not an MMA match. It doesn’t really matter what Conor brings, he has two hands just like Floyd. I would say at the max, the fight may make six rounds, maybe.”

Finally, some words from Oscar De La Hoya that got under Dana White’s Skin:

You cannot go in there with zero experience and box Mayweather, it’s not possible. When Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao took place, it set the sport back. It was a dud. It’s just like Canelo and Chavez, Chavez didn’t show up for a fight, people were disappointed. I made GGG vs. Canelo in order to bring back those fans, and give fight fans a real fight.

What happens in the sport of boxing, that I’m an expert in, it’s going to be entertaining because in the first few rounds. People are going to want to see Mayweather get knocked out, but for the next nine rounds it’s going to be boring, Mayweather is going to figure him out and box him. We know what’s going to happen. It’s going to be an easy fight for him.”
