It’s the Fight that Makes Sense and Khabib Nurmagamedov’s Manager has Confirmed that Talks Are Underway…

Go away, Nate Diaz. Now is not the time. Khabib Nurmagamedov vs Conor McGregor is the fight that the UFC wants and needs right now. The ‘Notorious and the ‘Eagle’ are two of the most polarizing and exciting fighters on the roster today. Now they are one step closer to fighting it out in the octagon.

Their rivalry has escalated over the past six months. Things finally came to a boiling point after Nurmagamedov and his team tried to intimidate McGregor’s Russian training partner Artem Lobov. McGregor’s natural response was to fly 20 Irishmen over to Brooklyn, by private jet and launch an insane assault on a UFC media bus carrying the ‘Eagle’.

Now it looks like the pair will soon be putting pen to paper on what could be the biggest UFC fight of all time. It’s the fight that makes sense for all concerned. Khabib’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz has confirmed that negotiations for this incredible match-up are progressing.

Tale of the Tape

Khabib Nurmagamedov is an unbelievably talented fighter. With an overall record of 26-0,  the lightweight champion is one of the most intimidating opponents in the lightweight division. A successful title defense against McGregor could arguably make him the greatest fighter of all time.

We all know who Conor McGregor is. The former UFC lightweight champion hasn’t fought in the octagon since 2016. Most recently he took on the UFC 223 media bus in an attack which ended with him in jail, so I guess that counts as a loss. His only fight in 2017 was against Floyd Mayweather.

Lightweight Showdown

One of the problems the UFC has is that the 155 lb division is just so stacked. Dustin Poirier and Kevin Lee both jumped into title contention with wins over the last couple of weeks. Meanwhile, in a parallel universe, Tony Ferguson is the lightweight champion because he took off his sunglasses at that press conference.

According to Ali Abdelaziz, the UFC are working on a card which would basically see the best of the lightweight division matched off against each other. There would potentially be three fights involving six of the best. His tweet can be seen below:

Stacked

This would be an unbelievable card. McGregor’s comeback is going to generate millions of desperately needed revenue for the organization. It also would mean that if either Khabib or McGregor get injured or arrested, there will be a fit and worthy fighter available to take their place in a title fight.

“All on the same card as a fan dream matchup”, Abdelaziz tweeted.

That would definitely be a dream. The only thing better was if they put all six men in the Octagon at the same time. The last man standing is the new lightweight champion. This is definitely a decent alternative though. While there are a number of details to be ironed out, not least McGregor’s legal troubles, it’s exciting to know that it is progressing.
