You may remember a recent report involving a meeting gone wrong between UFC president Dana White and Nate Diaz. The two were meeting to discuss the terms of Diaz’s rematch with Conor McGregor when things went south.

Diaz famously submitted McGregor in a thrilling welterweight fight at UFC 196. The bout was the March 5 pay-per-view main event, and Diaz threw a spanner in the works for the UFC and their plans for ‘The Notorious.’

Of course the UFC would never openly admit it, but they wanted more than anything for McGregor to win. The UFC featherweight champion is without doubt the most popular fighter of all time, rising from a poor Irish hopeful to a mainstream draw in just three years.

He’s featured on ESPN, BBC, CNN and pretty much all other major network news’ headlines. This is something that no other fighter in MMA history has ever had the power and popularity to do.

So when Diaz slapped, punched and choked his way to a second round submission win at UFC 196, the originally scheduled title fight for McGregor against dos Anjos suddenly fell apart.

How would he recover and continue heading the hype machine for the UFC? That’s simple, just book him in for an immediate rematch with Diaz, or not as the case may be.
