After a rough few years in both his personal life and fighting career, Alexander Emelianenko is trying to get back on track. During the last few fights before he was sent to prison, Emelianenko looked like a shell of his former self.
While fighting under the Pride FC banner, although he never reached the heights of Fedor, Alex was a dangerous heavyweight. Against opponents like James Thompson, Pawel Nastula, and Sergei Kharitonov, Emelianenko displayed devastating KO power.
Once Pride went belly up, Alexander’s career saw a massive downswing. Although he remained undefeated between 2007 and 2010, the caliber of his opponents was considerably lower than previously.
Then came some very dark times that eventually led to Alex being convicted for rape.
Release And Return To Fighting
Released in late 2016, three years early, Emelianenko sought redemption. Signing to the controversial World Fighting Championship Akhmat, owned and ran by Chechen war criminal Ramzan Kadyrov, ‘The Grim Reaper’ made his return to fighting.
On September 27, Emelianenko smoked Geronimo Santos in just 36 seconds. Then, today, Emelianenko faced traveled veteran Virgil Zwicker in a heavyweight contest. Zwicker, a Bellator MMA and Strikeforce veteran, lasted just 44 seconds.
