It wouldn’t be a Robbie Lawler fight if there wasn’t an unusual amount of pain and punishment. Once again ‘Ruthless’ proved he isn’t human as he absorbed a monster combo at UFC Winnipeg…
UFC on FOX 26 went down in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada last night. Fans in attendance at the Bell MTS Place were treated to a thrilling night of fights, featuring two former champions in the main event.
Although one of the Fight Pass preliminary fights was canceled on just 24 hours notice, the shortened broadcast and fight card was ultimately unaffected. From Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Mike Perry, Lamas vs. Emmett, Marquez vs. Stewart and Lawler vs. RDA, it was amazing.
Ponzinibbio vs. ‘Platinum’ was the fight of the night for me, officially though it was Marquez vs. Stewart that got the $50K x 2 bonus award. It was Ponzinibbio who clinched the win after a three-round war, dropping Perry on route to the unanimous decision.
Lawler vs. dos Anjos
To the main event recap and video, this was just the war we expected. Surprisingly, it was actually the Brazilian who put the pressure on for the entire fight. The Former lightweight champion dominated ‘Ruthless’ at his own game.
That said, perhaps the most memorable part of the main event came when dos Anjos landed the longest combo in UFC history and Lawler simply smiled at him. Its fair to say, Lawler just isn’t human.
Watch as RDA does his best to KO Lawler, but the latter proves he is most likely a zombie:
So the welterweight title picture gets shook up by the former lightweight champion. Perhaps a new contender has been born after this dominant performance in Winnipeg. Tyron Woodley vs. Rafael dos Anjos?
As for Lawler, his days of grueling wars and bloody battles will eventually take their toll. The question is can he make it back to the title picture after this latest loss? If not, does he need to consider retirement in the near future?
Just in case the above video isn’t working, we’ve got the official highlights of the main event below:
