The K-1 World champion Alistair Overeem against the former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos. A great fight with a shocking finish. Plus watch Nate Diaz
K-1 striking monster Alistair Overeem faced off against Junior Dos Santos in Orlando last night, as the co-main event for UFC on FOX 17. Overeem’s chin had been questioned in the past, and Dos Santos was without doubt the heavy favorite.
For ‘Cigano,’ a win could easily have meant another title fight in the near future. His knockout victory over the current heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum would provide an obvious backstory, as would his deep running rivalry with Cain Velasquez.
With the amount of punishment JDS had taken in fights with Stipe Miocic and Cain Velasquez, the validity of his beard was never in question before this fight. Overeem, finished by Travis Browne, Ben Rothwell and Antonio Silva in the UFC, was apparently on course to getting flattened in Orlando.
Of course odds don’t mean everything, and Overeem looked very trim and prepared for his fight with Dos Santos.
