It Wasn’t Just Conor McGregor And Khabib Nurmagamedov Getting Up Close And Personal at the UFC 229 Official Weigh-Ins… Two Fans Went to War as Well…

Khabib Nurmagamedov v Conor McGregor is official. All the talking is over and done with. The two men have made weight and faced off for the final time at the UFC 229 ceremonial weigh-ins at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It was as pulsating an atmosphere as many actual fight nights, with the fans all pumped up and cheering for their heroes.

There were some highlight reel moments just from this alone. We saw Alexander Volkov aim a punch at Derrick Lewis’s head. Meanwhile, McGregor palmed Khabib’s arm and then threw a front kick at the Russian. It didn’t connect but the whole crowd was on their feet, whipped into a frenzy.

Sometimes emotions get the better of you. That’s what happened to two rival fans in the crowd tonight. In the footage below you can see them slug it out in the middle of the T-Mobile Arena, just after the ceremonial weigh-ins ended. Enjoy!

Carnage

In the footage above by former UFC fighter Mike Jackson, you can see a McGregor fan wearing a Reebok shirt with shamrocks on it get involved with another man wearing traditional Eastern European garb. We have no idea what was said to trigger it, but the Khabib fan came on strong, throwing heavy blows as the crowd parted to let them scrap.

The Khabib fan definitely gets the better of this one. An omen for Saturday night? The McGregor fan starts strong but backs up and before he knows it he’s on the ground missing a shoe. And probably banned from actually watching the fight tomorrow night as well. Stupid.

Not Finished

Things escalated when two women, whom we can only assume are the men’s wives or girlfriends, get involved. One of them accidentally receives a jab to the face from one of the men. This sets her off and she gets in a scrap with her counterpart. The two of them set at each other like wildcats.

Security and the Las Vegas PD descend on the four of them, breaking them up. We don’t know what happened – if they were arrested for breaching the peace, or just kicked out of the arena, but one thing is certain, it didn’t end well for the four of them. Still a better fight than Lewis v Ngannou.

Pumped

You can’t blame them for feeling pumped though. Nurmagamedov v McGregor is the biggest MMA fight of all time and is the culmination of a rivalry that has become fuelled by genuine dislike. There’s only so many times you can be called a ‘smelly Dagestani rat’ and not get annoyed.

The two men will finally put an end to their differences in the main event of UFC 229, tomorrow night in Las Vegas’s T-Mobile Arena. While they’re officially fighting for the lightweight championship of the world, there are bigger things at stake including money, pride, and legacy.
