One of the most disgraceful referee stoppages in MMA history…
Fighting in mixed martial arts is a dangerous profession. When you lock two trained professionals in a cage together, even the winner can emerge with life changing injuries, or worse.
For these reasons and more, referees are assigned by governing bodies to help ensure fighter safety and fair play. Sadly, quite often neither prevail. Today is a prime example of when referees can become more dangerous than the fighters themselves.
Falcao Takes Terrible Beating (Video Below)
This is UFC and Bellator veteran Maiquel Falcao. Today, during Global Fight Night 63, Falcao faced Vladimir Mineev. During the first round of the scheduled three-frame bout, Falcao was rocked with a single punch, and crumpled to the mat.
Had this been a competent referee, the fight would have been over right there. Unfortunately for Falcao, the ref in this case let him eat 37 unanswered punches and knees while on the ground.
Watch, the fight starts at the 4:50 mark.
That was absolutely horrific…Even UFC referee Big John McCarthy was shocked by what he saw:
GFN Please Get Your Sh*t Together
Elsewhere on the card there were some fun fights and finishes, but thankfully the referees weren’t looking to get anyone else on the card beaten so senseless.
