Jose Andres Cortes
Professional MMA fighter Jose Andres Cortes was walking in West Palm Beach in Florida back in April of last year when he suddenly found himself being grabbed from behind and put in a chokehold by a would-be mugger.
The bungling criminal, who had reportedly just robbed a nearby restaurant, would have struggled to pick a worse victim than Cortes, an eight-fight MMA veteran who had previously fought for World Series Of Fighting and was known as ‘The Columbian Necktie.’
In an interview with the Orlando Sentinal, Cortes recalled how he grabbed the man by the wrists and then executed a takedown to get on top of him.
At first the thug struggled to break free, but as others gathered, Cortes assured them that he had the situation under control as he was a pro-fighter, and at that stage his attacker realized he’d made a huge mistake and gave up.
