4. Dan Severn vs Ken Shamrock – UFC 9
UFC 9 was almost the end. This was during the period that Senator John McCain referred to MMA as human cock-fighting and was fighting to get the sport thrown off PPV.
UFC 9 almost didn’t take place, as the company was in court that day attempting to get approval to go ahead with the show. Finally, a court ruled the show could go ahead but only under modified rules which included no punching. The result was Severn and Shamrock dancing around each other in what was, up until that point, the worst MMA fight of all time.
Others on the show ignored the modified rules but it is believed Shamrock was worried that if he got arrested he would not be signed by WWE after. Both Severn and Shamrock ended up on WWE programming not long after this fiasco took place. At least on WWE programming, their fixed fights were entertaining.
