BJ Penn

BJ Penn achieved fame and fortune as one of the UFC’s most decorated fighters during a crucial period in the company’s history, but the former lightweight and welterweight champion’s once proud record has been diminished drastically in recent years due to his reluctance to end his career.

The decline for ‘The Prodigy’ began as far back as 2010 when Frankie Edgar became only the second man to ever defeat the Hawaiian legend at lightweight and then did the same in their immediate rematch.

Penn did rebound with a win over his aging rival Matt Hughes next time out, but in the seven years that followed his fighting abilities would visibly decline, yet despite flirting with retirement multiple times, he would inevitably attempt to stage more comebacks, whether at welterweight, lightweight and featherweight.

However, Despite repeatedly vowing that this time things would be different, his performances only got worse with tim, resulting in hard to watch defeats that were not representative of what ‘The Prodigy’ had once been capable of.

From a 15-5-1 run in 2010, Penn now holds a 16-12-2 record that has sadly left some questioning his legacy, but the 40-year-old isn’t finished yet, lining up a fight with BJJ ace Ryan Hall next as he tries again to end his long losing streak.
