It’s been a wild week of news for UFC fans. The last 24 hours alone have been packed with huge fight announcements for UFC 205. The New York card got stacked, as the promotion hopes to make a good first impression at MSG.
Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor were confirmed as the UFC 205 main event. New York fans will get to see Alvarez make the first defense of his lightweight title against the current featherweight champ. The Irishman will not be stripped of his 145-pound belt.
UFC 205 Takes Shape
With the announcement of McGregor vs. Alvarez, the UFC 205 card is taking great shape. Set to go down at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York, the PPV extravaganza also had Chris Weidman vs. Yoel Romero announced today.
Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will face Stephen Thompson in the (assumed) co-main event. Strawweight queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk will battle Karolina Kowalkiewicz also on the main card–Good luck to Mike Goldberg announcing that fight.
The Big Story
Of course the big story surrounding UFC 205 is McGregor vs. Alvarez, but there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye. For starters, number one contender Khabib Nurmagomedov is left out in the dark again.
‘The Eagle’ has been gunning for a title shot for years now. Although injury hindered his recent requests, many felt Khabib would finally get the championship fight. There’s also the underlying issue of ‘money fights’ to consider. Tyron Woodley was hoping to get one, then in the same week we get Alvarez/McGregor booked. Anyway…

The Press Conference
The UFC 205 press conference went down in the Madison Square Garden this evening. The media gathered as the stars of UFC 205 took the stage, and the reality set in. Right now, as it stands, this is without doubt the biggest UFC card of all-time.
The questions came in thick and fast, but predictably it was Conor McGregor who did most of the talking. Things got really heated too…
