And Still the Light-heavyweight champion, Jan Blachowicz won the fight not easily but pretty convincingly. Most suspected that Blachowicz would choose to wrestle with Adesanya in the early rounds and avoid the high level striking but that was not the case.

Blachowicz chose to strike with Adesanya early, and even landed great jabs. Adesanya even feared his power, he looked more cautious compared to his past fights. Size advantage may have played a factor in the win.

In the first three rounds, it was a striking match. It was actually so close that it was difficult to score but in terms of the offical judges it was Blachowicz winning the fight.

Adesanya also landed great counter strikes but it never took down a durable Blachowicz. In the fourth and fifth round, Blachowicz control on the ground won him the fight. Adesanya could simply not get up due to Blachowicz being the heavier guy. Adesanya even credited Blachowicz’s guard after the fight.

Both fighters respected each other after the fight. Adesanya may have failed to become a two division champion but he is still the champion in the middleweight division. There is no shame in losing to the champion, he could just move back to his original weight and defend his belt.

The fight card was overall great but it did not live up to the hype as advertised but these things happen in all sports. On paper, it had three title fights plus other big names that many thought would bring fireworks but unfortunately it did not live up to the hype.

As for the light-heavyweight division, Glover Teixeira could fight for the title next. The old man has been due for a title shot and this could be his last chance to capture the elusive title.
