A Rematch Between Floyd Mayweather Jr. And Manny Pacquaio Appears to be on The Cards… The American Boxer Announced it on Instagram…
It was one of the most eagerly anticipated boxing matches of all time. When it finally happened, both men were past their prime and the fight itself was more of a snoozefest than the incredible display of skill and ferocity that we were hoping for. Floyd Mayweather defended well to grind out a success against an unusually subdued Manny Pacquiao.
Since then both men have fought a couple of times but the best days of their boxing careers are behind them now. Mayweather is 41 and officially retired unbeaten after winning his 50th fight, against Conor McGregor in Las Vegas last year. Meanwhile, 39-year-old Pacquaio has been flirting with politics, while he won a secondary welterweight title in July.
It looks like they’re coming back to fight again. That’s according to Mayweather who has released a statement on Instagram saying the match-up is done. You can see the post below. Don’t shoot the messenger if you don’t believe it. We’re only reporting what he says.
It’s an announcement that has come completely out of left-field and has a lot of fans theorizing about whether or not it is real. It’s highly possible that Mayweather is just trolling the world. He does like to do that now and again. Last year he kept trying to persuade everyone that he was going to cross over to MMA and fight Conor McGregor in a rematch.
Many fans believe that he’s just blown his millions again. Mayweather is notorious for his lavish lifestyle and has gone bankrupt in the past. While a rematch against Pacquiao is unexpected, if marketed correctly it will do well. There’s no denying that.
Some even more cynical fans believe that he’s just looking for attention because of the big fight that is going down tonight. Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will take on Gennady Golovkin for the second time in the biggest boxing match of the year so far.
It’s a proper grudge match after the dubious refereeing that tarnished their first encounter, and Alvarez’s well-documented drug test failure that resulted in a short-term ban for the Mexican. This fight is exciting and pure boxing fans can’t wait.
Since his dominant victory over Conor McGregor, Mayweather has been happily enjoying retirement. He’s been traveling all around the world, has recently begun opening his own gym franchise, and manages his strip club in Las Vegas, Girl Collection.
There is absolutely no doubt that people will tune in to see if ‘Pac-Man’ can be the one to knock the American into oblivion. Nobody has been able to do it – not even the Filipino fighter, although admittedly he was carrying an injury in their first fight. It will be interesting to see what happens here, and whether or not Pacquaio himself releases a statement.
