Tony Ferguson just posted a tweet calling out newly signed fighter Michael Chandler. The last fight of Ferguson was for the interim lightweight belt against Justin Gaethje. He was originally about to fight Khabib but due to the pandemic, it did not happen. Prior to his loss, he owned the longest win streak in the division beating all the contenders. No one deserves it more for a title shot than Tony Ferguson. Chandler has also shown interest in fighting Ferguson due to the current rank of Tony. If the fight happens, and Chandler who is about to make his UFC debut, wins it would leapfrog him to top 5 in the division.

The lightweight title is vacant since Khabib retired so it is up for grabs. Most fighters are have just fought or they have a fight booked. Conor Mcgregor and Dustin Poirier reportedly have a fight booked in January. Justin Gathje recently fought Khabib and fell short for the undisputed title. Dan Hooker and Tony Ferguson are the only fighters that have an open schedule. It would make sense for Chandler to get either.
The current situation of the division is a bit chaotic due to no champion. The question is who is going to fight for the title. Will the UFC grant the Mcgregor vs Poirer the title fight? UFC could also make the winner of Mcgregor vs Poirer fight against the winner of Chandler vs Ferguson for the Lightweight Strap.
