Current Number 1 Pound for Pound King, Canelo Alvarez has finally closed a fight deal against reigning IBF super-middleweight champion, Caleb Plant. After failing to book a deal on their first attempt for a September fight due to disagreement, it is fortunate that they came to a deal as this will be the first-ever undisputed super middleweight title fight in boxing history.

There were many disagreements in their first contract as Plant’s team thought that it was unfair. Alvarez had a lot of demands particularly the rematch clause and also if Plant somehow pulls out of the fight, Canelo can still fight but if Canelo pulls out they need to rebook the flight on a later date.
The demands of Canelo might seem unreasonable to some but that is just how boxing works. Canelo is definitely the A-side in the contract holding more belts and also being the cash cow. Without Canelo, people would not even tune in to watch this fight. Without Canelo, this wouldn’t even be a PPV card, so Canelo deserves to demand this type of stipulations.
Not only that, Caleb Plant has been the IBF Champion since 2019 but has yet to face unify another belt. Meanwhile, Canelo started his pursuit 9 months ago and since then has become the WBA, WBC, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight champion. Canelo has beaten Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders.
As for Plant, he just needs to focus on beating Canelo. It will be his biggest payday and it would not even be close. He may be coming in as the underdog but upsets happen in boxing. A win against Canelo will not just make him the first undisputed, it will also grant him a rematch which means another massive payday.
Caleb Plant also exercised his willingness to become one of the greatest boxers in his era. He said his plans were to beat Canelo, beat him in the rematch, and fight Joseph Benavidez and Jermall Charlo. If he somehow pulls this, it is hard not to put him with the all-time greats but first, he needs to get past Canelo.
As for Canelo, many already consider him an all-time great, he is just adding more records to his fantastic legacy. He is also looking to be the best boxer of his era, beating bigger guys that are champions.
Canelo has only one loss and it was against Floyd Mayweather, there is no shame in losing the undefeated TBE. In Canelo’s defense, he was still young and it was not his best weight class. Yes, he was undefeated that time but he lacked the experience. After that loss, Canelo improved tremendously, especially in his defense.
Hopefully, we get to see the first undisputed super middleweight champion by the end of the year. Both fighters stay healthy and no injuries will hinder the fight from happening, most of all no fighter will be positive for COVID. It is a fight that will be written in the history books when it is all said and done.
