When you watch Ciryl Gane fight it is like a new breath of fresh air, mainly because no one would have thought that he is a heavyweight. The way he moves is just different and is too skilled that no other heavyweight could do what he does.
Many would say that heavyweights don’t necessarily rely on skill but on power because it only takes one punch to end the fight. Although we had fighters who are great wrestlers like Cain Velasquez, great boxers like Stipe Miocic, great BJJ specialists like Fabricio Werdum but no other fighters float on the canvas like Gane. His fundamentals on the feet are a sight to behold.
When Gane entered the UFC, many thought he would be a problem. When he throws he always makes sure that his chin is tucked and covered. That is rare in the bigger division, not only that he moves fast for a heavyweight. He can also neutralize his opponents and set a distance even if the opponent is bigger, smaller, stronger, more skilled.
Gane only has a few fights in the UFC but he already has beaten Junior Dos Santos, Alexander Volkov, Jairzinho Rozenstruik and now Derrick Lewis to become the interim heavyweight champion. Many would say that he is not really a legit champion but there is no question that he is the next challenger against UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou.
What is interesting about the upcoming match is that Ngannou and Gane are former teammates out of France. Even Dana White said that had the pandemic not happen, booking a fight in France would have been a massive event. Both fighters also had a taste of fighting each other so they may know each other’s tendencies. Will Ngannou be able to land that one shot KO or will Gane’s skill be too much for Ngannou? Who do you think should be the favorite?
