You know what they say about old habits…

Coming up on August 26 is one of the most unlikely fights of all time. Although  great MMA fighter, Conor McGregor will step in to the unknown against Floyd Mayweather. Since being made official this month, the bout has caused massive debate.

Boxing personality and former champion Oscar De La Hoya labelled the bout a ‘circus’ in recent interviews. His fighter Canelo Alvarez and September opponent Gennady Golovkin also criticised the match.

The age old MMA vs. boxing debate will never be settled, not even by Mayweather vs. McGregor, unless they fought under a mix of both rules.

If you thought Mayweather vs. McGregor wasn’t going to happen, you probably underestimated how much money there was to be made…

Coach Concerned About ‘MMA Moves’

According to Mayweather’s assistant coach Nate Jones, the boxer’s camp are concerned about McGregor using MMA moves during their boxing match. Jones feels McGregor could get frustrated and ‘do something crazy.’

He told Submission Radio (via MMA Junkie) that McGregor could get annoyed and break the rules:

“One way I can see the fight ending is Floyd outboxing him, beating the crap out of him,” Jones said. “Another way I’m going to be concerned about is when Floyd gets to a point where he frustrates him too much, McGregor’s going to do something crazy. That’s the only thing I’m worried about.”

“I would be more concerned about this fight because Floyd’s a little older now. He’s 40 years old. McGregor has crazy weird power, and he’s got weird shots from weird angles. I’m worried about that. But for my prediction in the fight, is Floyd either confusing him and frustrating him and stopping him in the later rounds, or Floyd outboxing him, or (McGregor) doing something stupid and losing the fight. That’s my prediction.”

Not surprisingly, Jones isn’t the only one talking about McGregor busting out some high kicks on August 26:

Joe Rogan’s mind works in very strange ways…

Rogan Would Love a Good Neck Kick Knockout

“[If McGregor kicked Mayweather], that would be f**ked up, There’s probably some stipulations in the contract that say, ‘you can’t get him in an armbar or choke him.’

“[But] could you imagine? He would be a god damn folk hero. If they got in close and Floyd was shucking and jucking on the outside, and he threw a jab to cover up a left high kick and that left high kick necks him? Just clang! And you see Floyd go limp – and he would go limp. He’s never been high kicked like that. Jesus that would be crazy.”

“Would it be worth it? It would, but it would f**k everything up because no one would ever trust another fighter from MMA to ever fight a boxer in a boxing match again,” he said.

Rogan speaking during a recent episode of his podcast there. Given the amount of cash on the line, it would truly be absurd if ‘The Notorious’ did throw it away on a head kick. That said, when fighters get angry, crazy stuff can happen.
