Looks like the rivalry between TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt might just be getting started…

Last night was truly amazing, undoubtedly the best card of the year. Featuring three massive title fights, UFC 217 delivered in spades. After a so-so year in terms of available talent, the UFC hit New York and the historic Madison Square Garden.

Featured in the main event was the epic return of former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. Coming back from four years away, ‘Rush’ crushed Michael Bisping and jacked the middleweight championship in the process.

Preceding the co-main event was a myriad of drama and bad blood. Former Team Alpha Male stablemates and now fierce rivals Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw had a score to settle.

After dominating Dominick Cruz to capture the belt, ‘No Love’ was a slight favorite to win against Dillashaw. Following a near knockout in round one, ‘The Viper’ came back in epic fashion for a TKO win in the second frame.

Garbrandt Demands Rematch Against Dillashaw

Soon after the fight was done, Garbrandt was already talking about a second fight with Dillashaw. Immediate rematches are usually spared for very close or controversial fights or fights where long-reigning champions have just lost.

Nonetheless, Garbrandt is thirsty for a second dance and says he is a better fighter than Dillashaw. Quotes via MMAJunkie.com:

“I am the better fighter out there and he was able to capitalize on a low left hand and a right hook,” Garbrandt said. “Hats off to T.J. He battled back from losing his title and he was a hungry man, but I’m still the better fighter in there and I’ll show that in the rematch.”

“Still, I feel like he’s a piece of s**t teammate…

I stand beside my facts. He lies still and it doesn’t matter, yeah, he won, good for him. I’ll be back and I’m going to come with vengeance and that belt’s gonna be mine.”

“He caught me tonight,” Garbandt said. “He caught me with a punch. I truly am the better fighter. It was me vs. me in there, I’m battling with myself. To throw more punches, to counter, to see all these openings, and I just didn’t pull the trigger. It’s always me vs. me. The only person that beat me is me and I didn’t throw my hands, I didn’t do what I was supposed to do and know how to do in there.”

How about the infamous scream after the TKO finish?

“He probably just yelled some (expletive). He had a lot of (expletive) he was carrying on – with all of the drama. And I stand behind everything I said. He’s still not a good person, but I respect him as a fighter. And that’s that.”

“If I have to fight and wipe out the whole (expletive) division, I will,” he said. “I’ll be back and I’m going to come with vengeance and that belt’s gonna be mine.”
