This is no longer rumour, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will hope to make history against Rafael dos Anjos…
Many people have an opinion about the state of the UFC featherweight division at the moment. The UFC’s new staple weight category has been taken over by the new champion Conor McGregor, after his stunning victory over Jose Aldo at UFC 194.
No sooner had the dust settled on his landmark victory over ‘Scarface,’ McGregor was already throwing a spanner in the works for the contenders at 145 pounds. Talk of a move up to lightweight began circling rapidly.
It seemed as though McGregor was now calling the shots, as Frankie Edgar was denied entry to the cage at UFC 194, and UFC presiudent Dana White later confirmed that McGregor would indeed be moving up in weight before defending the featherweight title.
Talk of a scrap against his social media rival Nate Diaz suddenly became rife, although eventually led to nothing. Then the rumours about UFC 197 emerged, and the talk was that the UFC wanted to make McGregor vs. lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, and Holly Holm to defend her bantamweight championship against Miesha Tate.
Fresh off his victory over Donald Cerrone on December 19, dos Anjos indicated he’d happily destroy McGregor, but it was all still rumour, even up until yesterday.
