Conor McGregor has been Arrested for His Central Role in the UFC 223 Bus Assault and Fights Have Been Cancelled…

The fallout from the UFC 223 media bus incident is continuing. It can officially be confirmed that Conor McGregor is now in custody, in Brooklyn’s 78 Precinct following his central role in the incident. It has been described as “criminal, disgusting, despicable by the UFC president Dana White.

McGregor and a mob of between twenty and thirty other men, including UFC featherweight Artem Lobov and Bellator fighter Charlie Ward marched into the Barclay Center on Thursday. They were let into the UFC 223 venue by media credentialed members of the Mac Life.

They proceeded to launch an astonishing and violent attack on one of the UFC 223 media bus, carrying the red corner fighters back to their hotel. Numerous fights have been affected by the insane actions, and McGregor has officially handed himself into the police for his part in the melee.

What Happened

In scenes captured on at least a dozen camera phones, McGregor and his team threw trash cans, bottles and other large objects at a bus carrying the Irishman’s rival Khabib Nurmagamedov. The most dramatic part was when the ‘Notorious’ lived up to his nickname for all the wrong reasons when he threw a giant dolly at the vehicle.

This had unintended consequences. Fellow UFC lightweight fighter, Michael Chiesa, who was supposed to fight Anthony Pettis on Saturday, has suffered multiple lacerations on his face, and is now unable to take part. Similarly, Ray Borg also got sliced by broken glass. While his cuts aren’t as severe, his fight with Brandon Moreno has been scrapped.

In Jail

McGregor is in serious trouble here. Assault and damage to private property were never going to end well for the Irishman. Allegedly he handed himself into police at 10.23pm EST. He has been charged with multiple charges, however, these are all pending at the moment.

While he has yet to be formally charged he is still being held and is expected to see a judge at 7 am EST. Whatever happens, it is not looking good for the ‘Notorious’. UFC president Dana White summed it up best when he said:

“You can imagine that he’s going to be sued beyond belief and this was a really bad career move for him.”

Three Fights Pulled

The most direct effect of Team McGregor’s actions so far are the fights that have been pulled from the UFC 223 card. While Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg were injured, another fighter has also been dropped. Artem Lobov was meant to take on Alex Caceres, but after his role in events, the Russian fighter may never fight for the UFC again.

It’s unclear at this moment in time what will happen next. If McGregor is charged it could have severe implications on his future career. His ability to get a work visa will definitely be affected. At the very least he is going to have to deal with multiple lawsuits. This madness is going to be expensive.
