Outspoken and brash UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will attempt to make history on November 12. After the fight was initially announced, top contenders in two divisions were pretty angry.

First off, the featherweight belt has been undefended for a year now, and Jose Aldo primarily was very frustrated. ‘Scarface’ had lost the belt to McGregor at UFC 194, fighting for and winning the interim belt in the meantime.

Fighting Above His Weight

As Conor McGregor fought back-to-back as a welterweight at UFC 196 and UFC 202, the belt remained on ice. Aldo’s frustration at the UFC 205 main event led to him nearly retiring from the sport.

Undefeated lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov was also beside himself. Revealing he’d signed two contracts to fight Eddie Alvarez, ‘The Eagle’ was snubbed for the UFC 205 main event.

McGregor Blasts Alvarez’s Training Partners

During a heated UFC 205 media call, Conor McGregor took aim at Eddie Alvarez’s training partners. ‘The Silent Assassin’ claimed he had a perfect camp for UFC 205, and that his sparring partners prepared him well. One of those training partners is top ranked featherweight and former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.

Having called for a fight for over two years with McGregor, ‘The Answer’ was another disgruntled fighter after the UFC 205 announcement. Clearly picking up on these vibes, ‘The Notorious’ mocked Edgar in this segment of the media call:

“He couldn’t do in 50 minutes what I did to Jose in 13 seconds. He didn’t make the cut. Frankie just ain’t good enough, although I wish him well. After I destroy you, maybe I’ll pick him. There he is on the prelims, don’t be trying to push a training partner under the bus because he couldn’t cut it.”

“I run this whole shit, I run New York. I’m the reason this whole thing is happening, there’s no-one else out there.”

Alvarez:

“You’re fucked my man. You ran from Frankie for two years. I’m not worried about the crowd, my fans know about fighting.”
