We all know Conor McGregor likes to talk a lot, but is this too far?
UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is often the subject of many insults. Following three straight years of blasting everyone in the UFC, McGregor is now getting tons of abuse in return.
Knowing it’s all part of the modern MMA game, most fighters take ‘The Notorious’ with a pinch of salt. Trash talk sells fights, and so it seems nobody is safe from a public lashing these days.
Give & Take
After UFC 204, one particular fighter spoke out against Conor McGregor. UFC middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi is not usually known for his trash talk, but he blasted the Irishman in a surprising rant.
“McGregor’s good for the sport but what is it. You had Muhammad Ali, he was a hero, he was besides a great boxer, he did a lot, he did big things. Now you have (Floyd) Mayweather and Conor McGregor — ‘I have money, I have money’ — and everybody loves it. That sells.
“People are stupid. What can I say? They don’t know who’s a real fighter or not. They just like to see expensive stuff on Instagram probably.”
McGregor’s reaction to these comments was highly surprising, even for him.
Threatened With a Knife
As per Flocombat, Gegard Mousasi says Conor McGregor threatened to stab him with a knife:
“People liked it.” Mousasi said. “I just spoke the truth. Sometimes you have to say stupid sh*t before people notice you. I got a private message from Conor McGregor. He was cursing at me, the little f**k. He was threatening me. I said ‘What are you going to do with your 50 kilos?’ The f****r was threatening me with a knife. He knows I could beat his ass any day.
“I said some stuff that I didn’t mean,” Mousasi said. “I said ‘People don’t know who the real fighter is or not.’ Of course he’s a top fighter. English is not my first language and I just blurt stuff out sometimes. I thought it was funny that he was messaging me.”
Too Far?
Following these crazy comments, is it fair to think Conor McGregor might’ve gone too far? Gegard Mousasi is a little out of his range in terms of weight, but who knows, maybe that’s a rivalry that could produce a fight?
