McGregor hit Diaz with everything he had, but it couldn’t keep Diaz down…
McGregor is used to just barreling through opponents, using his power as a catalyst for exciting, highlight-reel knockouts. But against Diaz, no matter how hard he came at the Stockton native, nothing was going to keep him down.
“You can’t get a heavier shot than that,” said Kavanagh on the MMA Hour.
“And what does Nate do? Puts his hands out and walks forward. I’m not gonna lie, I was slightly terrified.”
It was definitely a memorable bout, one that neither McGregor or Diaz will likely forget. A rubber match is almost inevitable despite UFC President Dana White shooting down the idea of one.
Diaz just kept moving forward…
It just makes sense financially to stage a third bout at lightweight, where both fighters are more acclimated to the weight class.
But at welterweight, McGregor and Diaz were stocky combatants who each gave as good as they got.
For Kavanagh, he’s made it known that he wants McGregor to campaign at lightweight moving forward, although the Irishman has made no announcement yet regarding his future.
