If Paulo Costa is to be asked, his “dream fight” is to wear the middleweight belt and defend it from Khamzat Chimaev in the future.
Costa is set to face Robert Whittaker at UFC 298. The bout has been a long time coming, with the two previously booked by the UFC only for the bouts to repeatedly fail to materialize. And in case this latest booking is pushed, Costa is certain that the winner will be the No. 1 contender for the middleweight title and fight Sean Strickland, who will face Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297.
In case things go according to plan and he wins the belt, “The Eraser” wants to make his first title defense against Chimaev. In case this is made to reality, the Brazilian is confident that he can make a remarkable win in the fight.
“I think I’m going to catch him, punches or kicks, I don’t know,” Costa said on The MMA Hour. “But I have a feeling I’m going to get him on some movement that he cannot see, and he’s going to sleep.”
This will be an interesting fight for fans, especially with the two being in a long-time feud. Yet, for Costa, this is more than just a grudge fight but a “dream” one that will satisfy his MMA aspirations.
“My dream fight is for the belt against Chen Chen,” Costa said on The MMA Hour. “I have no question about one fight, one matchup against Chimaev. I can bet everything on me. I’m so confident in that fight. This should happen. It has to happen.”
