Colby Covington failed to snatch the welterweight belt from Leon Edwards at UFC 296. Yet, the trash-talking fighter believes he was not the best version of himself in the bout, saying his long layoff was the reason behind his defeat. The fighter later tried to negate the judges’ unanimous decision but was booed. In response, Covington sent his critics a loud “f*** you.”

Covington challenged Edwards for his title in the event. As expected, the American made some terrible trash-talk to the opponent prior to their bout, which even included a comment about Edwards’ murdered father. Needless to say, fellow fighters and fans were not pleased with any of it. This manifested in the reaction of the MMA community and the event’s crowd in the event.

The two fighters finished all the rounds, with Covington barely making any remarkable move in the fight, especially in the first three rounds. The challenger managed to deliver a takedown in the latter part of the fight, but it was not enough to match the beatings he received from Edwards. In the end, this led to the unanimous decision of the Briton.

Covington wasn’t pleased with the result and expressed contradiction about it. Despite his loss, the American denied feeling any pain from the blows sent by Edwards and promised to come back again in the cage “stronger.” Ultimately, the fighter got into his character and made the crowd taste his trash-talking quality when his statement was welcomed with disapproval.

“I feel great. I didn’t feel like I got touched,” Covington said. “It was an easy fight. I don’t have a scratch on me. I’d like to get back to work the early part of next year. I’m only going to learn from this. I’m going to go back to the drawing board. I’ve been out of the octagon for two years, people been ducking me, fights fell through, Leon didn’t want to fight in his home country of UK, so I’ve been ready to fight anytime, anywhere, anyone.

“I will come back stronger. I’m 35 years young. I didn’t take any damage this fight. This is the easiest fight of my life. I thought I won the fight. It’s all perspective. I will come back stronger. You’re all a bunch of broke b***** anyways, f*** you.”
