A fight between Miesha Tate and Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino could be in the works, but judging by what Cyborg posted on social media recently, it is far from a done deal.

Whenever asked about a potential fight with Cyborg, former UFC women’s BW champion Miesha Tate has always sounded open to the idea. She has kept her messaging consistent in recent months, stating that she would “have nothing to lose” in a bout against Cyborg.

Miesha Tate Open to Fighting Cyborg

Tate expanded on her feelings about the possible match-up recently on the MMA Hour.

“When I was the champ, they told me that they would not .. do a catchweight, so either she has to meet you at 135 or you have to not be the champion” Tate stated

“So now that I’m not the champion, I technically could fight her at 140. I wouldn’t be against it. The thing is, I just feel like I have nothing to lose in that.”

Tate first has Raquel Pennington at UFC 205, and will be looking to bounce back from what she called the worst performance of her career at UFC 200.
After UFC 205, a catchweight fight with Cyborg might be a good way for Tate to keep active while waiting for others in the bantamweight division to face each other. There is quite a log jam atop the division, and it might be in her best interest to wait until some of that clutter disperses before jumping back in.

On the other hand a fight with Cyborg could be a career-ender, as it was for Gina Carano once upon a time.

Perhaps concerns about what Cyborg might be able to do to her career have Tate second guessing her statements. Judging by what Cyborg recently posted to her social media accounts, Tate may indeed be reconsidering.
