The UFC has become a very different place in the last 6 months. Compared to the promotion back in the mid 200’s, the current UFC model has been vastly altered.Aside from the stricter drug testing and growth in to the social media age, it’s now all about money fights.
Conor McGregor’s influence in this aspect has been massive. Since joining the UFC back in 2013, the Irishman has been showing fighters how to really get noticed. It’s no longer only about winning fights, it’s about promotion of oneself.
Money Over Rankings
Not only is McGregor looking for money fights, but other fighters are following suit. Since winning the featherweight title in late 2015, ‘The Notorious’ has fought twice at welterweight against Nate Diaz.
Tyron Woodley recently snubbed the number one contender Stephen Thompson in favor of some big money fights. It’s all well and good talking about it, and very few take that chance in higher weight classes.
Cris Cyborg
One particular rising star in the UFC who is having issues with weight is Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino. The current Invicta FC 145-pound champion can’t cut to 135 to make bantamweight. Unfortunately this is where most of Cyborg’s rivals fight.
The dangerous Brazilian striker says she want the UFC’s women to be more like Conor…
