The UFC President Has Released a Statement Regarding the Future of Conor McGregor and his Chances of Fighting Khabib Nurmagamedov…
You can tell that Dana White is absolutely desperate for this one to go down. He went all the way to Liverpool to watch a relatively decent fight card, with Darren Till controversially beating Steven Thompson by a narrow decision. However, his real business was a conversation with Conor McGregor after the card ended.
It never happened. McGregor was unable to make to Merseyside in time, despite having been in London for Bellator 200, the night before. Don’t worry though, he is set to meet White in Las Vegas, where the pair will figure things out.
McGregor hasn’t fought in the Octagon since November 2016. Last year he boxed Floyd Mayweather in a contest worth hundreds of millions. Since making his money, the ‘Notorious’ has been going crazy, with the most infamous incident that New York attack where he threw a dolly at the window of a bus, carrying Khabib Nurmagamedov.
Helpless
At this point, the UFC can’t do anything for McGregor anyway. The Irishman is due back in court on June 14th, in New York, where he’ll face charges of criminal assault and criminal mischief. If he’s convicted he could face jail time or lose his right to work in the USA. In which case, he will definitely not be fighting Khabib Nurmagamedov. White said:
“What happens next with him depends on what goes on with him in New York in June. We can’t determine anything about what’s next for him until June is cleared up.”
Sources remain optimistic that McGregor will not face any serious penalties for his role in the incident. He is still likely to get stung by lawsuits from the likes of Ray Borg and Michael Chiesa for injuries that forced them to withdraw from the card.
Confident
White believes that the much-hyped fight between McGregor and Nurmagamedov can and will happen. The new lightweight champion, from Russia, is one of the most frightening opponents in the octagon today. His devastating top game is seen as McGregor’s kryptonite.
“I’m pretty confident that that is the fight that Conor wants, and I’m pretty confident that that is the fight that Khabib wants,” White said. “So, yeah, I could see that happening.”
Ok, Dana, you don’t need to play it so coy. Just get it done yeah? If Conor McGregor does come back, there’s no question that this is the fight that has to be made. Just play that footage of the bus attack and it sells itself. Go away, Nate Diaz.
Head Down
McGregor was in attendance at Bellator 200 in London, to watch his friend and bodyguard Charlie Ward grind out a convincing first-round win. Ward took the opportunity to call out 50 Cent after that fight. Yeah like that’s going to happen.
The ‘Notorious’ has been keeping his head down since his release from that Brooklyn precinct. Can you imagine if it was all just for a special episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine? That would be amazing. Come back soon Conor.
