Daniel Cormier came out with an unexpected message to the fans about Jon Jones last night…
UFC light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is experiencing mixed emotions right now. After finally getting to face Jon Jones again at UFC 214, ‘DC’ had to swallow a brutal knockout loss.
Losing the belt to his oldest rival, Cormier was shattered in the post-fight interview. Remaining classy as always Cormier admitted defeat to the better fighter. Little did anyone know this drama was far from over and had many more layers.
News broke that ‘Bones’ had failed a pre-fight drug test, and the walls again came tumbling down. Stripped of the belt and removed from the rankings, Jones had apparently hit the self-destruct button again.
With his loss now changed to a no-contest, Cormier was re-instated as the light-heavyweight champion. Sent to the sidelines to deal with his latest mess, Jones’ future was again under a dark cloud.
Cormier’s Statement About Jon Jones
Taking to Instagram, Cormier posted the following message to fans about ‘Bones.’ Although he has shared a bitter feud with the talented now-ex champion, ‘DC’ urges fans to lay off him:
Life can be such a roller coaster. I think sometimes you have to just take a moment and breathe it in. You never know what’s gonna come your way. You try and handle it the best way you can. One thing that has been amazing is the support from you the fans. I have never felt so much love. It’s crazy because this all happened when I lost.
Guys now I call upon you to take a breathe, lay off of Jones. Let him and his team figure out what’s going on and what happened.

I was down and some may have kicked me but the majority of you showed compassion and love. After the fight Jones showed compassion, regardless of what has happened as humans we must show compassion.
Jon is not on this ride alone, remember this man has a family. Let’s respect that. You don’t show ur support for me by hurting others. Again I thank you for ur unbelievable support and I trust that you guys will come thru again. DC
Now although fans in their thousands have shared and commented on the post, one former UFC heavyweight champion was pretty vile about it. Check out Fabricio Werdum calling Cormier ‘maricon,’ a Portuguese homophobic slur:
Potential Heavyweight rivalry?
There’s the chance that Comrier might well consider moving up to heavyweight. If that’s going to happen, though, he’ll probably look to challenge for the title. Should he build a rivalry with Werdum, it would be pointless as ‘DC’ would have to vacate the 205-pound title.
Regarding the Jones situation, there’s no way those two should ever fight again. Even if ‘Bones’ does return, how can you book a trilogy after he’s failed two drug tests against the same fighter?
