Rising UFC Star Darren Till Believes That He is a Better Fighter Than Conor McGregor…
Darren Till is one of the most exciting rising stars in the UFC today. His career is on an upward trajectory and the UFC know it. That’s why the Scouser will be headlining UFC Fight Night 130 in his hometown of Liverpool, England. The unbeaten welterweight is one of the most confident fighters out there.
Coming off the back of a devastating KO victory against ‘Cowboy’ Donald Cerrone in Gdansk, last October, Till proved that he is for real. He’s now the No. 7 ranked welterweight and has his eyes set on rising quickly through the division. The problem for Till is that nobody wants to fight him.
He’s tried calling out Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, but the American just isn’t interested in taking such a risky fight, for little gain. Till is an exciting and vibrant personality. In recent days he’s spoken about people comparing to Irish star Conor McGregor, and the similarities between the two fighters.
Divided Loyalties
Till has had a fascinating career to date. He’s unbeaten, with a record of 16-0-1. The Liverpool star famously moved to Brazil, where he dedicated himself to Muay Thai. It’s a crazy story. He moved there after being stabbed at a party, with the blade missing his main artery by a mere inch.
You might guess that he’s a confident man – he calls himself ‘The Gorilla’ for crying out loud! Till spoke to ESPN UK about the similarities between himself and Conor McGregor, who has changed the game for European MMA athletes.
“I just think he lacks a bit of kicking, little bit of cardio”, Till said. “But you could put us in the same bracket in the fighting style. But I am better. I know I’m better.”
Big Talk
For sure there are some stylistic similarities between McGregor and Till. They’re both southpaws and strikers. However, let’s be real the Liverpool fighter still hasn’t fought the very best in the welterweight division. Until he fights someone like ‘Wonderboy’, Damian Maia, or Robbie Lawler, haters are going to hate.
Till also believes that McGregor while McGregor has put a lot of effort into creating his media personality, fans appreciate the Liverpool fighter being more real. He said:
“He looked more into marketing. I don’t think I market myself,” Till said. “I’m just real. I just say what I think. I just write or post what I think. I don’t really care what anyone thinks or says about me. They don’t know me.”
What’s Next?
Well, it’s very unlikely we’ll ever see Till vs.McGregor. There’s just too big of a size difference between the two men. However, McGregor is expected to return later this year and fight the winner of Khabib Nurmagamedov vs Tony Ferguson.
Meanwhile, Till is still without an opponent. Leon Edwards has been calling him out, however, he would be a backward step. Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington are other options. Can you imagine the trash talk if Covington and Till were to fight? Make it happen.
