Deiveson Figueiredo is certain that he could be Sean O’Malley’s weakness in case they find themselves in the same cage one day.
The former two-time flyweight champ made his debut in bantamweight this month and made a successful entry by defeating Rob Font at UFC on ESPN 52. This effectively allowed Figueiredo to infiltrate the bantamweight ranking as a Top 8 fighter. Needless to say, this has given the fighter confidence in his future in his new division and in beating O’Malley, who rated his performance versus Font a 3/10.
“I think that he has something to worry about,” Figueiredo told The MMA Hour through a translator. “I’m the original. And if he’s the virus, I’m the antivirus to him.”
“Deus da Guerra,” nonetheless, knows that the path to the title shot of the class weight won’t be instant. With this, Figueiredo admits it will require him to continue improving his bantamweight record. In doing so, the fighter thinks Petr Yan is a good choice or whoever the UFC would offer to him.
“I think I have a big name coming into the division,” Figueiredo said. “I think that’s definitely a possibility. I’m a two-time former champion. My last fight at 125 [pounds against Brandon Moreno,] I had not had a good camp and now I am great. I feel that could be a possibility. However, I will patiently await what the UFC has in mind for me.
“I’m ready for whoever they wanna put me against. The first name to come to my mind would be Sean O’Malley, so besides him, whoever they put against me.”
