Boxing Promoter Eddie Hearns invites Tyson Fury to the big heavyweight fight. Tyson Fury currently holds the only belt left for Joshua’s quest for the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion. This can happen two ways, either way, the winner will be the Undisputed Champion.
Eddie Hearns has said that both teams are hopeful that Joshua will win his fight against Pulev so that it will set up potentially the biggest fight in British boxing history. Both parties want the fight but the negotiations are what makes the fight not happen.
The British Promoter is also looking to hype the fight by giving Fury the chance to get in the ring post-fight if Joshua wins. It could potentially make a boxing promo of both boxers trash-talking each other.
Tyson Fury has held Joshua’s current belts after defeating Wladimir Klitschko but has long vacated and retired from boxing. He then unretired was focused on coming back to get the WBC belt against Wilder. The WBC belt was the only major belt Fury did not get prior to his comeback.
The last heavyweight boxer to unify the belts was also a British boxer named Lennox Lewis. Lewis is currently ranked as one of the best heavyweights of all time due to his career and who he has beaten.
If the Fury vs Joshua fights happens, the winner will potentially get all the major heavyweight belts and the lineal title making him the Undisputed Unified Heavyweight Champion of Boxing. It would the most coveted title a heavyweight boxer can have since it basically means being the baddest man in the world. Most fans also consider the heavyweight division to be the premier league since it is where the biggest fight.
There is also another issue that may hinder the fight from happening and that is the World Boxing Organization. The WBO belt has a mandatory challenger which is not Fury but Oleksander Usyk.
If the WBO won’t overrule or exempt the Fury vs Joshua from happening, they may strip Joshua of the WBO belt which may lead to not being the Undisputed Champion.
This exact situation happened with the Wilder vs Fury fight since Dillian Whyte was the mandatory challenger but the WBC gave an exception to grant Fury the rematch. So at the end of the day, the question is whether the WBO will grant an exception to pave the way for the Fury vs Joshua mega-fight.
