Dan Hooker sees a huge opportunity in becoming the backup for the fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler. As such, although he’s ready to fight as early as May, the fighter would be willing to wait until June just to get the spot.

McGregor and Chandler are expected to enter the cage on June 29 after the long wait. The Irish announced that the fight would be in middleweight. The promotion still hasn’t confirmed the bout, but many fans and fighters are already interested in it. One includes lightweight fighter Dan Hooker, who seems willing to make some weight adjustments just to be considered as the backup fighter in the fight.

Hooker’s proposal makes sense as the event is expected to attract a huge audience, and being a part of it could help him in his career, especially if he would face McGregor. Moreover, it could be a rematch between him and Chandler, who defeated him via TKO in 2021.

“I would be ready to go probably May or early June,” Hooker told The Mac Life. “But I would be willing to wait to late June because you’re playing that game where you can step in. I don’t mind either of the blokes. I got no personal vendetta against like Chandler, that is what it is. He beat me fair and square. I got no qualms about that, that’s just the sport. Conor, that’s a cool fight card to be a part of. I’ve been a part of a McGregor card before.”

With his history with Chandler and the record of McGregor, fighting any of the two could be risky for “The Hangman.” Yet, Hooker is unbothered and determined to extend his two-fight winning streak he obtained from Jalin Turner and Claudio Puelles. Moreover, the fighter only fought once last year and still has no current fight booked.

“You obviously get to play the roulette,” Hooker said. “You get to take the gamble, the exact gamble I would like to take, which is be the backup for that fight. Obviously fighting, couldn’t care who, top to bottom. Whoever’s free, but yeah, on that card and whoever gets injured, that’s like my perfect fight.”
